Wood

There are a lot of exciting new products on the market these days that claim to look authentic and promise to be just like the real thing. While many of them do a fantastic job there’s no denying that a beautiful, real wood floor will add a timeless charm to any room.

There are two types of wood floors, solid and engineered. Solid boards are solid peices of wood while engineered boards have a solid wood top-layer with a reinforced backing. We only sell the engineered variety as we believe it to be the superior product. Here’s why:

Engineered wood doesn’t expand and contract to the same extent that solid wood will. This means that we can fit your floor over an underlay or glued to the floor. With a solid wood it can’t be “floated” and has to be adhered to the floor. Solid wood can’t be used with underfloor heating whereas engineered boards can’t be.

After an engineered floor is fitted you it’s indistinguishable from a solid floor so the only real benefit you get from a solid floor is the amount of times it can be sanded and re-finished. Our main wood supplier, V4, give a tremendous 35 year warranty to all of their engineered products.

Looking after a wood floor can be a bit more troublesome than a standard laminate or vinyl style floor covering. Here at Absolutely Fabulous Flooring, our staff are highly trained to give you the best advice for maintaining your floor. From day-to-day upkeep to a more robust sanding and re-finish, we can guide you toward the best products and most reputable cleaning and sanding firms in the area.
