Sub-Floor Preparation

With many types of flooring the finish of your floor is only as good as what lies beneath. In a lot of new properties the floors are mostly acceptable. These floors might only need attention for certain products that need to be stuck to the floor. With older properties with floors in worse condition a kitchen may need to be smoothed over before vinyl is installed. The benefits of a good smooth sub-floor cannot be understated. Once it’s done right every floor fitted after that benefits.

Your floor may also need attention when damp coming up from underneath the floor, particularly in pre-70s properties. In cases like this we can lay a damp proof membrane and then a layer of smoothing compound over that.

Maybe you’re having underfloor heating installed and need us to smooth over the heating element.

Perfecting Your Sub-Floor

There are lots of things that can crop up regarding sub-floors. Which is one of the reasons we like to see every floor before we provide a quote. If need be, we can discuss any issues with you, test for damp and give advise on your options.

If floors need damp proofing we can normally get this done in the morning. It should then be dry enough to walk on by late afternoon. The same applies to smoothing compound, which can be walked on in 3-4 hours.

If it’s a wood sub-floor that needs attention we can install plywood over the floorboards. If the job isn’t over a large surface area this can normally be done along with the flooring in a single day.

Please feel free to get in touch with any questions you might have or if you’d like to arrange for us to take a look.
